The Department of Labor Wage and Hour Division has proposed a revision to the Fair Labor Standards Act regulations governing payment of overtime in the workplace. The proposal, called a "Notice of Proposed Rulemaking," or "NPRM," will have a significant impact on the chain restaurant industry. Members click here for a summary of the proposal.

The overtime regulations have not been updated in over 50 years. Click here for a Department of Labor Press Release on the Proposal and here for a PDF copy of the actual proposal (requires Adobe Acrobat)

Click here and here for more information from the Department of Labor about the proposal.

The Department of Labor Wage and Hour Division is accepting written comments on the proposal through June 30, 2003. It is important for NCCR Members to make their views known because the proposal is not yet a final rule.

We have created a simple way for NCCR Members to send in comments to the Department of Labor by email. NCCR Members click here to view our sample comments and send-in form. This is a members only page -- you will be asked to provide your NCCR user i.d. and password.
